Not Tonight 03:16
Well when we started out, things were much easier We would write down our dreams, and somehow they’d appear Oh but not now, oh but not now. Well when we started out, things seemed so clear We could banish our fears with a kiss and a bottle of beer. Oh but not now, oh but not now. Cause some hard rains came And a flood it walled me in And the time just taught my heart how to forget So pour me one more Make it alright But girl don’t you leave me here, not tonight. Well I once was a kid, then I grew up somehow Not sure where those days they went, but they’re gone now And I don’t know how, I don’t know how. Well I wish that I had just a day or two to be free But that time’s got a chain around my neck and I can’t breathe And feeling alright, well that’s just a dream So you pour out your whole heart, and I just drink till I’m not here And the days go on like they’ve been. Cause some hard rains came And a flood it walled me in And the time just taught my heart how to forget So pour me one more Make it alright But girl don’t you leave me here, not tonight

Well there’s so many days And time just moves along And my memory fades years into a simple song Why did you leave me here? Why did you leave me here alone? Well there’s so many ways That a man can get along And the time he has is a moment quickly gone Why am I fighting here? Why do I even care about a song? My heart hurts Thinking of things I haven’t done And my hands ache from holding on Why am I still here Why do I even care to hold on? So don’t care about me If you don’t want my pain I need love to carry me away

My heart it aches, and my soul is sinking Down into a well, filled with nothing but myself And that ain’t no place to be For a man that’s dying Cause if my days are numbered, I don’t want to spend them on myself So take my hand Don’t leave me lonely Guide me out Into the light Cause I don’t want a life like this. Well my family tree is full but broken And their stories burn, down deep into my soul And then come out in lines, all on my forehead And when I see them there I know that I can’t make it on my own. So take my hand And don’t be lonely Guide me out Into the light Cause I’m not made to be alone.

What if you loosed all the chains in your life Cut the strings, open your heart with a knife What would you do? What if your life wasn’t as hard as it is If the things keeping you down didn’t exist What would you do? There’s no time for thinking it through or thinking you’ll loose There’s a voice calling your name, asking you to choose. There’s a man that I am, and there’s one inside And they’ve been fighting over my heart for all of my life One is afraid, the other’s ashamed I’d cut out that old heart and wear it on my sleeve If that’d help to win the fight, help me to breathe. But oh the pain The crying pain That’s ok, let it bleed Boy you’ve got to believe. Don’t you be such a fool You’ve got eyes to see.

There is a song ringing in my ear That I cannot make out Someone’s been singing to me for ages dear Some song I remember, but I never can hear There is a beat that my heart is keeping Like a drum in the distance It sounds like a dream That I want to remember Or a pain that I know well From a wound that will not heal And my ears keep straining to hear Just one tear, when it’s raining on me. Can you feel the air in the distance From across the cold ocean Comes the scent of a flower There is a beauty, unlike another And it’s far and it’s near now Both gone and inside you still And your ears keep straining to hear Just one tear, when it’s raining on you

All For You 02:29
Hello my love, you're not alone Buy I could never sing your song Don't let your dreams, always be dreams Cause that's your heart talking to you It's singing a song you always knew So pick up your hands girl Tie up your long red curls Open your eyes, it's all for you Hello my love, you're all alone Cause no one else can sing your song So I won't shed one tear for you my dear Cause your hearts the one that knows your name No one else can teach you to sing So pick up your hands girl Tie up your long red curls Open your eyes, it's all for you

about

Matt McCloskey Austin

Since his 2009 debut release, These Times Won't Last, Matt has fearfully explored themes of pain, hope, and freedom in his songs, and become known for his cutting lyrics, and truthful performances. His latest release, The Hard Rains, explores the more difficult sides of truth, and the struggle to find it.
